Media and pH Requirement:
Use well drained sterile media that also has good water holding capacity with a pH of 5.8 to 6.2. Keep evenly moist, but not constantly wet.
Feed Requirements:
100 to 150 ppm N on a constant feed basis. Alternate with clear water to avoid excessive salt build up. High ammonia inhibits flowering and causes excessive vegetative growth.
Pinching Requirement:
Double Up?s have an excellent branched habit and do not require pinching.
Growth Regulators:
The best regulator is good cultural practices such as good light, proper temperature and water management, avoiding ammonia form of N and overcrowding in production. Bonzi? is effective to control height especially during low light conditions or to hold finished pots.
Disease and Insect Pests:
Aphids and Thrip: Aphid and Thrip will damage or destroy flowers/foliage.
Botrytis, Pythium, Phytophthora
Maintain proper air movement to control Botrytis. If growing Double-Ups with a high proportion of shade overhead, preventive fungicide sprays will keep plants Botrytis free. Drench regularly with preventative root rot fungicides. |
Light:
Medium light levels; light levels below 2,000fc will cause tall, soft growth.
Comments:
The new Double Up series exhibits a great plant habit with large double flowers.
